# Competitors & sources

> The two inputs that determine the quality of your Signals runs.

## Competitors

Add competitor names in **Sources tab → Competitors**. Each competitor has:

* **Name** (required) — the display name Xura uses in prompts.
* **URL** (optional) — helps disambiguate ("Sun Pharma" vs "Sun Pharmaceutical Industries").

**Xura will infer competitors if you leave the list empty**, but you'll get better, more focused results with explicit names.

<Tip>
  Click **Suggest competitors** to have Xura propose 5-8 based on your company profile. Review and prune before saving.
</Tip>

## Preferred sources

Add source domains in **Sources tab → Preferred sources**. Each is a URL or domain hint like:

* `fiercepharma.com`
* `endpts.com`
* `techcrunch.com`
* `theinformation.com`

**These are hints, not filters.** The research agent still searches the whole web, but weighs your listed domains higher. If you list none, the agent falls back to whatever it finds.

## Why sources matter

Different industries have different signal quality by domain:

* **Pharma** — FiercePharma, Endpoints, STAT News, BioSpace, C\&EN.
* **Fintech** — TechCrunch, The Information, PitchBook, Sifted.
* **Devtools** — Hacker News, TLDR, The New Stack.
* **Enterprise SaaS** — SaaStr, The Information, Bessemer.

Without hints, generic finance/tech coverage dominates and industry-specific stories get missed.

## Your priorities

Your onboarding priorities also influence Signals. The research agent uses them to bias what counts as "notable" — a hiring signal matters more if one of your priorities was "Track competitor hiring". See [Priorities](/getting-started/priorities).
